This book was a bit of a slog to get through. Eleanor is established as a socially removed, critical character who uses unnecessarily big words to dissect the world around her. As she becomes more connected to the people and world around her, the story opens up a bit to learn about how her past as influenced her and how she begins to heal from past trauma. The end goal of this book was pretty clear from the get go and more of a logical conclusion than a moving conclusion to a narrative story.

All that being said, it was an interesting experience to push myself to see the world through the lens of a protagonist so different than myself. I certainly came to care for Eleanor and was happy to see the growth in her ability both to develop a support network and appreciate it once present.

Absolutely beautifully written. There are not enough words to describe the emotional rollercoaster I was on while reading this. It’s not at all what I thought from the blurb, it was a million times better. The growth of Eleanor and her evolution of strength was so beautiful and inspiring. I could not get enough of this!

I don’t know how a book can be both lighthearted and deeply emotional and dark but this book accomplished it. It was the first book in awhile that I didn’t want to stop reading and made me stay up to read more. The relationships were pure, the reflection and growth was inspiring, and I loved cheering on Eleanor.

Eleanor Oliphant is completely lovable and hilarious. Her story is so sad and I found myself desperately wanting to be her friend! Some of her social faux pas were entirely relatable, which endeared me to her character. I also loved Raymond and his mum, and Sammy. Such lovable characters. Such an engaging story. I’m so glad the author decided to speak on the subject of loneliness, which is a major problem ironically in our overly populated world. This book gave me so much joy and hope. Well done!
