First mafia romance, check! Literally have never picked up or thought about picking up one in this genre but I let a spinning wheel choose my TBR pick and it landed here!
I was so into this that I flew through it in 3 days. I should have known I was going to enjoy a book where we have an extremely possessive man that outwardly is tough and hard to break that is feral for his lady. Because, yes, to all of that.
I was a fan of Elena, she was willing to break the family rules and stand on her own two feet but was still really protective of her family and making sure that they were always safe and okay.
This was definitely dark, a few spots where my eyes were popping out of my head but if you're looking for something dark and steamy, this will do it.

I tried to like it. Really I did, but I felt like I was on a zipline and at the end there was no platform for me to land on. I didn’t grasp on to this like I wanted to.

I needed a palate cleanser after my last read and this totally did it for me. I devoured it in a day and it was such a fun read. The romance was hot and intense, the banter was sarcastic and flirty. It was incredibly "cat and mouse" and I loved watching the chase unfold. We get more from Elena than we do Nico, but the Nico chapters were a nice addition - really solidifying the miscommunication trope but, otherwise making us privy to all his thoughts which I always appreciate.
I have 2 recurring problems with romances. 1) The FMC is always super hot with a negative 15 inch waist, virginal, great in bed at first try and is always lusted after.
and 2) The FMC is *totally nOt Like oTHer giRLs* and mentions it often enough to make sure its understood that she is REALLY DIFFERENT you GUIse! This didn't (completely) do that and I love the author for it. So obviously, Elena is super hot and all she is lusted after BUT it's not mentioned every chapter and she's not oblivious to her looks.
The writing was easy to digest, there was some expanding on the world and it made sense to me, it had a pretty solid story with romance written in.
The character development is absolutely top tier and I just found both characters so endearing, their affection was sweet, the intensity was romantic and chaotic and a little toxic but perfect in a fictional world.
