I personally am giving this an extra star because the dialogue between Nico and Elena is always electric and it takes something special to make simple conversations hit like they do. So many bookmarks. SO many.
Yes the plot is a little weak but once you see the chemistry between those two, who even CARES? Bear in mind that usually books like this are so badly written that I can’t get past the first couple of pages…I was pleasantly surprised when I wanted to read on and binged it all night because I was HOOKED by the will-they-won’t-they (please-do-so-I-can-go-to-sleep)!
I’ve never read a mafia romance before though and it’s honestly impossible to swallow the way their world works. I can understand the murder and the cheating etc because yea, money makes the world go around and sadly that’s always going to be true. The archaic misogyny and double standards? I cringed a lot. Swore a lot. Rolled my eyes a lot. So I really had to ignore the blatant death of feminism whilst reading this, and I know little about Cosa Nostra but the portrayal of it sounds about right so well done to the author for inciting such visceral reactions in me. You don’t shoot the messenger.

i enjoyed this one, though i was expecting for more dramatic scenes but overall it exceeds my expectation actually. it needs more kick!
Okay so this is my first dark mafia romance and this is my favorite mafia romance...I have reread this book so many times because no other mafia romance book has done it like this one. I was shocked how much I liked this. The tension between Elena and Nico is so good like I was eating it up. Elena is the daughter of a mafia leader and Nico is the Don in New York. On top of that he is engaged to Elena's sister when really he wants Elena but there is something from her past that is forbidding him from getting with her. It is considered slow burn because they really don't get together until past the halfway point because Elena tries really hard not to like him because he is a Don and she's lived in a mafia family long enough to know how mafia men are but Nico is just a person who is so down bad for Elena that he really can't think about anything except Elena even when he was engaged to her sister. Nico is my favorite character from the entire series like, he was funny without even trying to be.
This book had everything: hate-to-love, forbidden love, jealousy trope (they were so down bad for each other, that this jealousy made me giggle...the pool scenes), "yeah?", she steals 2 million from him, the side characters are amazing (I wish Benito would have his own book)
