I am SO IMPRESSED with this series. Was I expecting 5 stars from a 5 year old YA fantasy? Absolutely not. But I'm so happy to be surprised.

Jezelia is one of my favorite female characters of all time. She is strong in so many ways, and not in the "I can kill anyone with a sword way." I like that type of female character too, don't get me wrong, but the depth of Lia's character is just phenomenal.

And again....the female friendships!!!!! I couldn't ask for a more realistic and solid portrayal. Calantha is what Nina was supposed to be in Shadow and Bone.

This does whatever the opposite of foreshadowing is. Like you get thrown into a chapter thinking you skipped 10 pages somehow. But also I loooooove a plot like this so it's fun
