Oh wow!!! I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I had anxiety, I’ve had everything. All the feels during the reading of this book and you know it’s been a while since I felt so attached to characters in a fantasy novel. God I missed it! The writing is so hypnotic and fast paced, I was pumped on a ride and just couldn’t stop. This book was incredible. I’m in love.

Sometimes with book series you never know if the first one will be the only good one. I found with the Poison series by Maria V Snyder that Poison Study really was the only good book out of the trilogy. I thought the same might be said for Heart of Betrayal as I was unsure where the series might head to. I’m so pleased that my worries were for nothing as this was a stunning sequel.
I actually like this better than Kiss of Deception. I felt it had more depth and was slightly more gritty. But with grit you don’t get the lovely descriptions of beautiful trees and the grass but you do get really good villains.
The Komizar was a brilliant villain. I thought he was actually pretty sexy at first and then in the end he really just was a complete brute. But I liked that. Sometimes as a reader when your reading these sort of YA books you know who the romantic interest is from the get go. But with the Remnant Chronicles so far I really am being pushed from pillar to post on who I think it will be. I personally prefer Kaden. I feel he has a lot of depth and I feel there is so much more passion between them both. I felt similarly with ‘Princess of Ash’ I didn’t really know where the series was going to go sometimes with series like ‘Matched’ you know exactly where it’s going to go. I like to be challenged and kept guessing because then it would just be boring otherwise.
Again the pacing was brilliant and kept me engaged the whole time. So many more loveable and hateful characters. I’m really excited to read the Beauty of Darkness to see where it’s heading as I have so many questions. What are her parents going to think? Who is she going to end up with? What’s going to happen ahh!! I can’t wait.

This was so much better than the first book. More political intrigue, more world building, more interesting characters! I LOVED this book.
I'm definitely team Kaden, there's something about Rafe that I don't love. Or at least I don't feel the chemistry between the two characters.
I loved seeing Venda and how complex it was and I loved seeing how Lia's view progressed and evolved.
Those last 100 pages were CRAZY. Lia's characters definitely grew on me from the first book and I liked having some chapters from Pauline's perspective. I'm so excited to see what happens in the final book.
Side note: if Lia doesn’t end up with Kaden I. Will. Riot.
