The first book is very slow paced and chill, leaving a lot of room to establish character dynamics and different relationships. I wasn't mad about it.

This book was all plot all the time, and the characters barely had any time to themselves that wasn't dire. Also not mad about it.

This book kind of reminded me of Breath of the Wild in the sense that the female main character is a religous beacon for her people despite having a very tenuous hold or understanding of their gift/connection. It made it more fun for me to think of it that way, at least.

The stakes keep ramping up as the series goes on, but I'm not confident I'll remember much from this series once I finish it.

5/5 Pearson has an unbeatable pacing and well mapped plotlines that had me chowing this book down! WOW, the political intrigue and built up lore that absolutely twisted in the last half, girl gimme book three NOEW

Okay, hear me out: Was the first one a bit boring and monotone but I loved the twist and gave it more stars for it? Yes.

Was this was also a bit boring and monotone? Yes. Is it bad? No. It‘s okay.

Not gonna read the last one of the trilogy though, it really is very predictable and I don’t enjoy that.
