you know, I had low/neutral expectations going in but i do feel like I got something out of the book and found myself wanting to recommend this book to other people, which I do think means it is deserving of at least 4 stars. VERY strong character and I do think it captures something particular about the teen experience.

This was probably the worst book I've ever read. I was able to finish it, but only because I kept hoping it would get better. Unfortunately, it didn't. Other than numerous swear words, the only word the main character said was "phony".

Hated this book. Hate Holden Cauliflower or whatever his name is. Giving it 0.25 stars out of spite

my fav book in high school. less favorite post-college. hits hardest once phoebe comes in.

I have a hard time giving this book only 4 stars... If there were a way to do "4.75 stars," I would, and only because I only really give 5 stars to books that I think are under-appreciated. If Howard Jones were a book, I'd give him 5 stars.

Bottom Line: "Read The Catcher in the Rye" should be on everyone's "To Do Before I Die" list.
