I’d heard so many good things about this book and whilst I did get into it, I found the lead character challenging to like and elements of her journey frustrating/slow to read. However I did like the male protagonist Kaan and the book improved when he was a greater part of it and the story started to unfold towards the end. Still keen to read what happens next whenever another book is released as it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.

It’s a solid book and great fantasy. Some things felt a little unnecessarily long but it’s definitely a start to a series. A lot of world building. I will say while the author took the time to build a well established world it also felt like she over compensated. I get wanting to write world specific terms like “aurora fall” instead of nightfall “slumber” instead of night because of the way the world there works. But some things felt unnecessarily renamed. Pallet instead of bed. I kid you not imagined them sleeping on wood pallets not these luxurious 4-poster beds that supposedly they are. I don’t know maybe that’s just me.

I appreciated the romance and that Kaan wasn’t trying to make Reave replace or be his fallen love but tried loving her for her. Dragons are a definite plus.

The plot of the book had me intrigued, but some of the world-building left me confused and that took away from the story. The end of this book had me heading to Google to help me understand what I was reading. Overall looking forward to the next book, but will definitely need to do a reread before then!

This book was fantastic! Good pacing telling an incredible story. MMC is swoon worthy. FMC is strong, fiesty, independent, clever, and deadly. Excellent unique world building that initially feels like it might be overwhelming, but the author does an excellent job giving everything context. Mild gore and  🌶 🌶. The Dragons are perfect. Ends on a cliffhanger as this is first book in a series. Really loved this book and can't wait for the next book.

OMG this book was SO good 😭 easily the best fantasy I’ve read for a long while!

I loved how this was actually quite gory, especially the beginning as it paints a picture of the main character. I would say the pace is on the slower side of medium and of course there’s a lot of world building, but the immediate action at the start of the book adds the hook you need to keep reading. I did get a bit lost with who one of the characters is, but after a swift Google I am up to date.

100% recommend and the cover is soo gorgeous ❤️

“Broken things make the sharpest weapons.”

I was very excited to start this book after all the hype it was receiving on BookTok!
I struggled a little to get into it with the heavy world building and found myself flipping to the glossary quite a lot at the start.
Raeve is a strong bounty hunter with a dark side to herself. We learn a lot more about her past through diary entries (which was also a little confusing at the start because they’re not “technically” her diary entries). I would love to get to know the dragons more, as right now they mostly feel like transport rather than super connected to their riders (other than Slatra) and we don’t know why they bond with Fae.
It was a slow and dense read but I did enjoy it and the end answered some questions but also left me wanting more. I’m excited to see where it goes!
