Enjoyed the first half but the second half got so trope-y it lost me, and it was so long I didn’t want to power through. A LOT could have been edited out. Also, I am begging fantasy authors, please stop making up words purely for the sake of it. If an animal is functionally a cow, you can call it a cow. I promise it won’t take away from the world building. Or a day. Or mother and father. Or morning and evening. The story takes place across multiple years (I THINK??) but I didn’t want to keep going back to the glossary to translate words, which is the only place anything is given context, so I never had a clear sense of how much time was passing. I’m pretty sure she was hiding behind a wall for 10 hours but it also could have been 10 days. I really couldn’t tell you.

Would say this is ALMOST 5 stars it was so good everything I want and need from a good romantasy read. I’m only not giving it 5 stars because it is book one I’m a series and I have to leave room for growth obviously. Read this it is absolutely worth the hype!

This is the type of fantasy that I freaking live for! Dragons. Magic. Fae. A badass FMC with a snarky mouth. A love story that makes your chest ache. Unique world building and magic system. Spice. Action. Mystery. Lore that kinda breaks your heart. Ok. TOTALLY breaks your heart. This book was SO GOOD and I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment!

There is so much to like about this book and just a few things I really didn’t like. Love the world. Dragons are cool. Elemental magic is cool. Weird creatures are cool. I want a parchment lark, give it. I am already ready for the next one even though I’ll forget everything that happened in this book once it’s actually out.

I did find the FMC pretty annoying. Not enough to stop me from plowing through this but I think she could be redeemed in later books. I just found her decision making processes made me want to bang my head on a wall. Also, Moonbeam? That is by far the worst pet name. I can’t get behind it I’m sorry. For this, I can’t give a 5 star but sign me up for the next book I am in.

Have you ever read a book so good that you never want it to end but also want to finish it as fast as possible so you can absorb every single word? Have you ever read a book that you knew the second you finished it you’d want to read it for the first time all over again? That’s this book.

I love the way Sarah weaves her stories- dropping morsels that you don’t even realize are morsels until you’re smacked in the face with a new revelation. But you’re not so much smacked as you are edged into oblivion until finally you are gifted one little crumb of information that just blows everything apart. She is my favorite fantasy author hands down!

I had some minor issues with the pacing and some lingering questions about the magic system that I hope will be explained throughout the series, but I found this to be a super unique and engaging take on fae and dragon lore, fully rooted for the main character, and totally melted over the romance
