Good for You

Camille Pagán

3.53 AVERAGE

Aly has finally been offered the Editor in Chief position at her dream magazine but it comes with a big pay cut and redundancies across the team making her a not so welcome boss.
At the same time she is avoiding dealing with the paperwork following the loss of her brother less than a year ago. This head in the sand mentality and the pressures building at work all come crashing down in a very public (and recorded!) display.

She's encouraged to take a month off and this is where the story gets interesting! She relocates to the beach house her brother passed to her in his will, but not everything is as she expected it to be and we follow her in dealing with her grief, supported by her brother's best friend.

Great story to while away a few hours!

Triggers: grief, death, PTSD

Sadly, a 2.5 star read. Where to even begin...Aly is annoying. I get it, she's grieving, but even without that element she's completely self-absorbed and seems to have a really hard time acting like a person with other people. Wyatt seems great, I'm into him, but I don't see his draw to Aly??? By the end of the book we're meant to feel like Aly is starting to actually live her life, but she has no job, brushed over her abusive childhood with her mother, and has self-diagnosed with PTSD.
- one star removed for the line "he didn't love me enough to stay" ew
- one star removed for trying to convince me that Megan is a bad person
I would try another book from this author because I didn't mind the writing, but was defo not into the story here.

Feeling very disappointed by these Amazon first books

I'm a sucker for an enemies to lover book, especially when it's set in a beach setting and is released in the dead of winter. The exploration of themes like friendship, grief, secrets, and being true to yourself, made for an entertaining, satisfying read.

This was such a cute story. Definitely not what I expected. I cried, I smiled, I fell in love with the characters.

I wanted to like this book and there were parts of it that I did enjoy but the main characters, who’s names escape me now, were incredibly unlikeable. The guy started out nice became weirdly possessive and then by the time the book was ending he started to be nice again but it was too late for me to even care anymore. The girl, who was the lead, was a doormat and didn’t become less so by the end. She was also INCREDIBLY selfish.

I have only read one other Camille Pagán book, but when I saw this was an Amazon First Reads pick for February, I didn’t hesitate to grab it.
Aly Jackson is treading through her life. While she’s been in her dream job as editor in chief of a magazine for 6 months, her brother died nearly a year ago, and she isn’t coping well. When she overhears 2 coworkers talking poorly about how she’s doing her job, she goes on a very public rant that get posted on the internet. After being asked to step away from the magazine she heads to the lake house her brother left her, and she’s in for a huge shock when she realizes it was left for her to share with her brother’s best friend, Wyatt. While at first she thinks this is a terrible turn of events, it’s just what she needs to work through her grief and find herself again.
This has the perfect mix of drama, comedy, and romance and in true style of Ms. Pagán, wonderful character development. The self discovery both Aly and Wyatt go through helps to make this book something special.
Aly is a very complex character and the fact that she is so real is a testament to the talent Ms. Pagán has as an author. This book is filled with layers of depth and if all of her books are like this, I can’t wait to read them all.

Am I reading a flurry of romance novels in February to better hone my reader advisory and also scratch that cozy romance itch December-February always brings me? Yes I am, and this is one of them.

Not sure where all the 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from. This book reads like it was written during NaNoWriMo and never made it to a second content edit. This is the bone structure of a book.

Absolute trash. Hated the FMC so much. I gave myself a headache with all the eye rolling I did over what an immature idiot this woman was. 34? Please. More like 15.
