A novella that is predictable, yet retains an old-fashioned charm. It is not even comparable with the Anne of Green Gables series that Montgomery wrote, yet it is a relaxing sweet read.
An old classic from my childhood. Once I had read all of the Anne books, I read the Emily books, and I ended up with all of L. M. Montgomery's books. I was addicted and have reread her Anne and Emily books many many times. The lesser known books have been read less but still multiple times. Kilmeny has some dated themes and ridiculousness but is a good story for a romantic.
So, I’m currently reading a bio of L. M. Montgomery en route to PEI, and I’m trying to read her other works that I haven’t encountered before. This is basically a romance novel for the period. It’s a cute story, but not Anne.
Meh. Not what I 'd expect from L. M. Montgomery after having grown up with the Anne of Green Gables series.
Okay, I loved this book, in spite of the fact that the explicit takeaways appear to be: 1) Don't trust Italians, even if you've adopted them in infancy. Don't let them get above their station. 2) Beautiful women are virtuous. 3) Innocence and naivete are the same thing as virtue. But oh, it's so romantic and sweet and you have to love Kilmeny.
I am a huge Anne of Green Gables fan. However, this book was a disappointment. The love interest in this book had a wide age gap that I felt very icky about. Also, at only 120 pages, this book did not seem to develop the story well. However, I loved L.M. Montgomery's vivid writing.
