Meh. Not what I 'd expect from L. M. Montgomery after having grown up with the Anne of Green Gables series.

Wish I'd read this in my early teens. The purple prose and intense, innoccent passion of it all would have thrilled me. Along with the generational family drama of sin, anger and remorse.

Goodreads reports that I read this six years ago, but I have no memory of it. Which is a shame, because it's a lovely little gem - quaint, a bit overblown and melodramatic in places, but possessed of such sweetness and light as to quite counteract any descent into florid descriptions and implausible plot points.

This was a pretty straight-forward romance. It was a nice thing to read when there's snow on the ground and I'm longing for spring.

Okay, so I was enjoying this and then as it went on it just kept getting worse! It very clear why this didn't have the staying power of Montgomery's other works. The racism just kept getting worse throughout and Kilmeny's muteness was treated so well UNTIL it turns out that she was mute because of her mother's sin and it was cured because of love (and stress)?!?! What!? I probably could've forgiven the first couple times of the pointing out how naive Kilmeny was if it hadn't kept being harked on on top of everything else.

This was such a cute romance. I love L.M. Montgomery's whimsical writing style. I will admit the plot was predictable and the characters where a bit one sided. But Montgomery's writing style is flawless.

I read most of this book sitting in the corner of bookfest for an hour! it was the sweetest story ever and I do not regret that hour at all!!

Well, this was a nice short story. None of the characters are stand outs though and I doubt this will stick in my memory for long. Still some of the descriptions of the Island were quite beautiful...
