I will admit I couldn't go through this one on my first read but I tried again. Well, I'm glad I did. It is a love story, very SK style, of course.
It's heartbreakingly beautiful this one.. sure is one of my favorite SK books!
Also, very intimate. A lot about marriage and the secret life between 2 people.
I love Booya Moon.. it must be my favorite SK place. Ever.

I'm not going to call this a review, and I'm not going to give the book a rating, because I gave up reading it. I hate to do that, and I don't do it often. I actually had given up reading King's novels years ago because they just started to seem too much the same. I think the last one I started was The Stand, and I didn't finish that, either. But this was recommended and loaned to me, so I decided to give it another shot.

And not much has changed. Except the names and broad strokes of the story. Otherwise, it's King's (admittedly very successful) usual formula. And, yes, I know, you could walk into my house, look at my bookshelves and say: "You complain about King using the same plots over and over. What about that guy? And those? And that set over there?" And you would be right. I think it's more that some authors resonate with some readers, and others don't. We are willing to forgive some of that with the ones we enjoy, and tend to get frustrated with the ones we don't. Stephen King just does not resonate with me.

That said, I am willing to admit the guy can write. His characters, while all just a little bit odd (some more so than others), are dimensional and seem like real people. He certainly has a good handle on small town Maine life. And his creepy stalker characters are really creepy.

I just couldn't get around the "been there, read that" feeling, so I stopped about halfway through. If you like King's stories, that's great. I have no problem with anyone who does. They just are not for me.

Couldn’t finish. Read half of the book and tried to keep slogging through. Bunch of gunky. Not my favorite.

My slow summer reading finally broke with a familiar author. Outside of an excess of colloquialisms, even for King, this was a rare fantasy-leaning entry in his canon that worked well and even had a well played ending.

A good, old-fashioned Stephen King novel with lots of secrets, twists, and suspense.

I have enjoyed many a Stephen King book in my time but damn this was boring!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wild that this is his favorite of his own works but I guess I get it knowing it was based on his own fears of what would happen after his death. It's personal in that way. But it's also a good example of how a lot of things that are very personal to someone don't matter at all to other people lmao

It wasn't awful, in fact I liked how it started off, but it was about 200 pages too long and it just dragggggged on and on. Torture for a person who doesn't enjoy a slow burn (me!) The weirdly juvenile language was also odd to me (substituting swear words and the like) and it was just soooo long-winded. It was a real slog to get through. On to the next!

I get why this is one of his most ambivalently received novels, but it ended up being my favorite so far. This book absolutely wrecks me every time I read it. I love the writing and the intimacy of Scott and Lisey's marriage, Lisey in general, and of course the vividness of Boo'ya Moon. Gorgeous book.
