Più Saramago per tutti.
A poche pagine dall'inizio, sono già molte le frasi memorabili... Non a caso le note a margine su questo libro abbondano.
I pezzi sono molto brevi, e spesso l'approfondimento degli argomenti è volutamente limitato. Ma questo formato rende il libro un'ideale lettura da viaggio (in questi giorni lo porto sempre con me), com'è nella natura di un blog quotidiano.
Inoltre Saramago ritorna a volte sugli stessi argomenti, o approfitta di un nuovo spunto per trattare lo stesso tema; come succede nelle riflessioni quotidiane di molti.

Como es descrito en su resumen, es una recopilación de sus notas en un blog. Es su critica o comentario a situaciones políticas o cotidianas, locales o internacionales.
Fue interesante para conocer su manera de pensar. Descubrí que era comunista (nada malo que lo sea) y casi boto el libro por la ventana de la camioneta cuando se emociona (de alegría) hasta llorar debido a que Piedad Cordoba es comparada con uno de los personajes principales de su novela "Ensayo sobre la Ceguera"...

Fue interesante para conocer su manera de pensar. Descubrí que era comunista (nada malo que lo sea) y casi boto el libro por la ventana de la camioneta cuando se emociona (de alegría) hasta llorar debido a que Piedad Cordoba es comparada con uno de los personajes principales de su novela "Ensayo sobre la Ceguera"...

It wasn't bad, but held my attention unevenly—certain passages were profound and striking; others were more trite. But a blog often appeals to readers only to the extent that they find themselves greatly provoked or in agreement. I was neither.

Riflessioni di un premio Nobel che si scaglia contro la pigrizia del mondo, lo strapotere dei potenti e il sonno delle coscienze.
Saramago non ha paura di scrivere quello che pensa, non ha paura di scuotere l'acqua per far venire a galla tutto il torbido di chiesa, politica e umanità.

This book is a mish-mash of memoir, biography and nostalgia. He writes in a world where there is both restriction and abundant means to write. Saramago decided to blog and "The Notebook" is its output.
Occasionally sad, oddly nostalgic, strangely whimsical, Saramago mourns for his fallen peers and celebrates their art. We see the day-to-day world through his eyes with tear inducing politics and unfathomable people. The writing is collection of perceptions on humanity through the eyes of an artistic mind. The flawless flow of words are only a bonus.
A must, must read for anyone who love to see writers being open about world affairs and critique current culture without a safety net.
