A very informational book about all the different sounds animals make. Would be a great storytime read aloud if you just read the large words. This book also makes a great one-on-one elementary read with all the factual information about the animals.

This book loses two stars because the “seal” illustration is clearly a sea lion.

Kid-friendly non-fiction book. It would probably be fun for young children - to let them laugh and bark and squeal like the animals do. And it also teaches simple information about various animals and the sounds they make. It wasn't my favorite book of the nominations though.

Engaging and informative. A little text heavy, so might not work well as a read aloud unless you break it up. Could lead into some great activities.

I love Steve Jenkins’s work and this one, combined with Melissa Stewart’s informative writing, may be one of my favorites. From a teacher perspective, I loved the playful rhyme in section small section, like aardvark/bark, boar/roar, giraffe/laugh. The vocabulary development of sound words and synonyms would be a great exploration with this book! Some familiar animals like giraffes and hippos with other rarer choices like the coastal giant salamander and margay.

Prep for this summer's Reading Buddies
Beautiful illustrations that make me want to pet the animals, but not the best prose for a read-aloud.
