4.5/5 rounded up. I didn't grow up in a Unitarian Church, and although at times the characters felt a little too familiar, it was an enjoyable read! One might think several hundred pages about a church search committee would be dull, but it wasn't. I listened to it, and kept thinking that the narrator did a great job conveying the story in a way that made it feel as if you were having the story told to you in a conversation, versus reading it. I really liked this, one of my favorite reads of this year. Without giving anything away, I really appreciated the bittersweet ending, because life itself is bittersweet.

A very unique and fun to read author voice, but ultimately the story itself was just not very interesting to me. And while I appreciate a light cutesy low stakes novel once in a while, the fact that the ending was such a bummer kinda negated the point

I have no idea why I loved this book so much, but I did. I was totally immersed in it, and binge-read it in three days. I admit the synposis didn't sound appealing, but my book club recommended it, so I gave it a try. What a wonderful delight. The writing is a bit silted, but the author still did an amazing job of capturing the tension, creating the suspense, developing all the different characters. I finished this one a few days ago and am still emotionally processing the end.
