Let’s get the bad part of this book out of the way: yes, there is a lot of lacking communication throughout this book. Yes it is annoying. But yes the book is still worth it.

The romance in this is truly lovely. I thought the second chance was so well done. We’ve got a drop-out rockstar and a music review writer in a small town. They each have their own pasts they can’t seem to share and have to figure out how to let each other in.

This book is so queer and I love it! While I really enjoyed the romance, I looooved the found family even more! The main character moved around a lot as a child and found stability and second family in her mom’s friends’ family. They end up staying in touch for years and are all just so supportive.

If you like romance, I definitely recommend this!

This really picked up in the last quarter of the book. Sammy is easy to root for.

If your mom is a mess, this book might be tough for you.

I really liked this, and it gave me definite Abby Jimenez vibes (though it came across my feed as an Emily Henry recommendation). I love a good second chance romance or celebrity romance, and this includes both. It definitely is on the heavier side content wise, but it's very good and well rounded. Highly recommend.

Now, for the grandma:
I just KNEW that Paloma was going to die and she does! It was really lovely the week they have together, but it also completed SUCKED for Sammy, and I'm glad of the growth she has regarding her mom

Also, I can't get over how I first read a (really great!) Rick Riordan Presents book by this author, and now a really great romance. She contains multitudes!

agh, I somehow cried two times not expecting to at all. I just loved the interactions between sammy and her grandmother so much. it was heartwarming yet heartbreaking at the same time. the family moments and just wanting to be loved were my favorites parts, more so than the romance.
I wasn’t convinced that her liking him was based on a single night together as teenagers? it was the driving force for the willa and sammy plot but I’m not sure it was necessary. max was still very wholesome and cute though.
also, the way music was described felt kind of cliché at times. at least to me. but it still felt nostalgic and somehow reminded me of disney’s ‘starstruck’ or ‘let it shine’ lol iykyk.
