Who knew Diana Gabaladon could do short stories.
I have seen some websites saying that this should be read first in the outlander series but having already read 1-6 of the outlander series, I decided to go back to this and so glad I did it in this order. Although this book does introduce Jamie and his story, I found Ian most interesting. I won't give any spoilers but I loved the character development of Ian, plus having already read some of the outlander books it was interesting to be able to compare that to the character development of his son.

A fantastic short read, great to see some background on Jamie and Ian.
In traditional Gabaldon fashion, the plot is far more convoluted and twisted than it particularly needs to be.

A drop of water for thirsty Outlander fans, this just highlights the thirst rather than assuaging it, but any Outlander is better than none. Quick to read, it's interesting to see Jamie pre-Clare, but I actually think a little mystery is what makes Jamie so intriguing, so I hope there isn't any more prequels.
Jamie and Ian unable to think with their brains, overcome with their horniness.

Completely unnecessary, and not quite long enough to really enjoy it. Just feels like a couple of chapters she didn't manage to fit into any of the other books.
A little tidbit from Jamie's life prior to meeting Claire.
I don't think I've ever read a book with more references to penises.
