It’s nice to be able to read a story that includes the “original” Ian… even if it’s just a novella. I think she captured Ian and Jamie’s youth very well.

I really hate the word jewess, and I know this author can write about marginalized people using better language. Really troubling portrayals of women, rape, and harmful stereotypes. I had to double check when this was written.

I read this novella/prequel because I wanted to try the Outlander books (having watched the TV show) and Book 1 was out on loan.
Judging by this novella, I can expect a very high ratio of words to things actually happening, which explains the length of the novels ;)
But I notice other reviewers who love the books didn’t love this novella either, so maybe I’ll still give them a try :)

I’ve read all the large novels of this series and am going to back and reading the short stories and novellas in an attempt to pass the time until the next big book comes out. I love the world of outlander, the characters are my favorite, I could read about them doing the most mundane things.
This short story (novella?) was pretty good. The first half I had a hard time finding the Jamie I am used to, but he was there by then end!!! Which makes sense as this takes place before even the first big book. It was cool to see Ian and Jamie’s friendship before they turn into in-laws.
Overall a fun little adventure with some of my favorite characters!

Cute story, would have liked more or a bit more of a plot. Also hard to listen to a different narrator. Probably won’t revisit
