I was quietly hooked on this book till the last couple of chapters and then I was all WTF about that dead-end, nothing of finish. To the point I almost had a Bradley Cooper “silver linings playbook” moment. Disappointing as Throsby teased out such an an intriguing story, and I had lived Goodwood.

An enjoyable read, with interesting characters and a nice mystery.

Die erste Seite ist schon so ein Murks, dass ich das Ding entrüstet in die Ecke werfe.

3 1/2 stars. She writes the small town vibe well

Likes: Australian setting, mystery, Odette Fisher

Dislikes: plot loose ends, portrayal of country police as bumbling idiots

Benita "Benny" Miller moves to Cedar valley on the invitation of Odette Fisher, an old friend of her mother's, following her mother's death. Coincidentally on the very same day she arrives, a gentleman sits down in the street and dies. The rest is a mystery.

Based on the case of the Somerton man in the fictional hills of NSW.
