My 12 year old daughter asked me to read this moving and bittersweet story and I am glad I did. She was quite moved by it and wants a lot of people to read it.
What a powerful book to feel inside the mind of a child with Spectrum Disorder and how she walks through a tragedy. I highly recommend reading for anyone who works with children or has children: what's happening inside is often different than we assume.

A protagonista, que sofre da Síndrome de Asperger, é retratada de forma incrível, e o seu ponto de vista é maravilhosamente bem escrito. Sem contar que dá vontade de abraçar ela pra sempre e nunca mais soltar. Eu AMEI ela do começo ao fim. A forma como ela lida com o mundo, as expressões que ela usa, suas dificuldades, tudo é muito delicado e encantador.

This book is amazing. And lead me towards a new interest. Books written from the perspective of ...altered minds. Whether they have aspergers, schizophrenia, or are slipping into the realm of madness. I am intrigued.
This book gave such a beautiful look into the mind of a little girl with aspergers (autism) and how the world is a completely different place without emotion. It was truly an eye opener to live in her world. And watch was is common day to us from a completely different perspective. It was enlightening.

Eleven-year-old Caitlyn has lost her guiding light in the world when her older brother Devon is shot in a school shooting. The matter is complicated by the fact that Caitlyn's mother isn't around because she died from cancer a few years ago, and Caitlyn has Asperger's Syndrome.
Written from her perspective, this book effectively gives you a glimpse into how the mind of someone with this mental condition thinks and perceives of the world. I found it very believable, easy to read, and easy to connect to the characters in the story. There is a strong message of understanding one another and promoting peace to one another in order to make the world a better place. I couldn't agree more.

Poignant, heartbreaking and real. “Mockingbird” is a candid insight into Asperger’s syndrome with brilliant characters and an uplifting story of friendship. I loved it.

I don't know. I think I liked the stuff related to her asperger's, but not so much the agenda about school shootings.
I wish I could remember who recommended this so I could say "Thank You" (remembering my manners).
Anyone who works with children should be required to read this book. In fact, I think all students grades 4 and up should read it too. What a great way to learn about people with different abilities, to learn about building character, and to learn empathy. This is a beautiful and uplifting story.
