I'd given up on the Scarpetta series after I abandoned the last one because I found it unreadable. However, thanks to a recommendation by a coworker, and backup from Goodreads reviewers, I have this a try. Very readable, and one I didn't want to put down.

Really struggled to get into this. Although I found the characters more human than the other two Scarpetta novels I've read most recently, I still don't like them much. I only really enjoyed the last third or so of the book, although the plot itself was as clever and intriguing as always.

It was fine...much better than some of her recent novels. I took it on holiday with me and it was intense enough to hold my interest, and long enough that I didn't finish it until I came home.

I am not sure where I even got this book and I ended up reading it not realizing it was a part of a bigger series of Scarpetta books. So I really had nothing to go by in the series and I did for the most part enjoy the book.

Finally! This book puts us back on the train tracks that Blow Fly derailed us off.

I enjoyed this a lot more than the 'Book of the dead' thankfully!
The characters all seemed to come back into line which was great - however I disliked how quickly that Marino's recovery seemed to just be glanced over and talk about as if it was some east feat and how he now seemed like a changed man however. I'm glad that Scarpetta is back in a morgue and working with police instead of in her own silly detective business or whatever it was and she seems so much more . . 'herself'.
I enjoyed the POV chapters a lot more in this book and found them to bring a bit more to this story and I also enjoyed that we got to see some of Berger's history. I feel like the ending was perhaps a bit rushed and there could have been more to it however I understand why it was done due to the length of the book.
Overall it was an ok book!
