I really liked this book, especially the slow unraveling of Myself's mystery and the descriptions of the House, but I think I was led astray by all of the positive reviews.

Because, while Piranesi is a good book with an interesting format and mystery, I have read similar books that are similar in subject that hit a little harder and push the boundaries a little further. (A personal favourite is Beneath the world, a sea.) So ultimately I was a bit disappointed by the end.

It’s best to head into this book knowing as little as possible. It’s most mysterious when first read or listened to, but even so, I liked to return to the story after I already knew it. The narrator is fantastic and was selected perfectly for this story. It is not for readers with little patience or cravings for variety — be warmed of repetitive and long passages. The writing moves slowly and reaches great depths.

Loved the unraveling of the mystery through the unreliable narrator’s lens. I found the protagonist to be so precious. Not the most exciting read in the world, but it offered some beautiful prose.
