3,5*
I liked the sequel to Realm breaker better, to my surprise. I guess because I knew the story line, the characters. There was no long introduction needed, the story took off where we left Realm breaker.
Victoria Aveyard can write. And the world building for a YA-story was excellent as well.
And I applaud the character choice for the villain, a 19 year old girl / woman. The big bads (What Waits and Taristan) were side characters and did not take the spotlight of the woman. A young woman with delusions of grandeur because of her paranoia of being a young woman is rarely the villain. Unfortunately she also was very annoying and I hardly liked reading her passages.
The other characters are all really bland and this is the for me the flaw of this series. Good story idea, but bland characters.
The cliffhanger was excellent, lets see what the finally will bring.
