This author was a compleat surprise. Never read her work before. Great humanized characters. I particularly loved the skillful slow reveal of Zack and Beck's back story. Complicated plot, good tension, and the sex is paced so as not to overwhelm the plot.

Great plot, great sex - I was worried the sex scenes would become overwhelming, but just as I started to get 'bored', wanting the plot to move along, the scene would fade to black. The initial ones were more detailed, which I expect, but once the UST is resolved, I don't need to have detailed scenes, especially with a plot this good.

I hope there will be another book in the series. The ending seemed slightly abrupt and there is one scene involving the profiler which didn't add to this current plot (unless I missed something). I'm hoping it will be used in the future.

A good solid murder/serial killer mystery that forces Beck and Zach to work together again.
I enjoyed the who and why of the investigation, even knowing who the perpetrator was early on, we still had to work through the actual who and why and how.
Beck and Zach together are working from a very brief kiss 2 years ago but do get more time now to develop feelings. However, as a reader I didn't feel the feelings so much. I enjoyed their story arc though.
The friend baggage that they both had was interesting and resolved neatly.
At one point I did wonder if I had missed an earlier book, especially Zach's Xav-D arc but this was covered, but the heart issue (one in the prison) and the new murders just disappeared, so maybe a book 2 will surface to tie up these loose ends.
A 3.5* for me.

This story has a lot of slow moments. A lot. Then it kind of rushes the ending.

A fantastic book! I don't categorize this one as mystery because we know from the beginning who the culprit is. The suspense comes from the efforts of said guilty part to stop the investigations and the fact that, even when WE know, the main characters, don't.

The antagonist is a really powerful, connected man which makes him very dangerous. And he is a total psychopath.

The story is very well written, and I particularly liked that Zack and Beck met each other in a time in which both of them were undamaged, but now both of them have scars: physical and mental ones. And both are coming from a break-up, both are dealing with people who depend on them, and both are overwhelmed with guilt. Not a good fundament to build a relationship, isn't it? and yet...

The thing is, the way in which they get together is really organic and not without obstacles which makes it very real and plausible.

A great story and I would dig right into the second in the series right now, but the third book in 'Bitter Legacy' is out, so... I'll be back to this series later :P
