Overall, this book was a good start to the series. I definitely agree that it is very much a book that was written to set up the rest of the series. So I do think it's weak in that way. But, that didn't necessarily make it bad and it was important to set up the friendship dynamics and establish mysteries and such. The book was really slow for me up until the last 100-ish pages and then it picked up and I really found myself turning pages. I feel like now that we've set up what needs to be done and what we can start to discover the mysteries of, the next books will be better. At least, that's what I'm hoping lol. Overall, I didn't think this book was bad, but it also wasn't the page-turner I was hoping for. But I'm definitely continuing the series because I do really enjoy our characters and I like the romance that's being set up for later books.

@35%. girl shut up about how much you love this man that i literally know nothing about bc i don’t believe you

I keep going back and forth on the rating for this one so I’m gonna call it a 3.5 ⭐️ I loved the found family and really like how she did the ending but something about the FMC bothered me. I think I was comparing her to Aelin from SJM too much which wasn’t fair because I don’t think they compare. Any wayyyy I did enjoy this but wasn’t super hyped to read it every night.

The review I've struggled to write because it's felt impossible to find the words to accurately describe how incredible this book is.

This book and it's beautiful band of misfit chaos friends has stolen my whole heart. A magnificent debut from Nicole!

Nicole has built an interesting world with easily digestible world building. For my typically non-fantasy friends out there that might be interested in the genre I promise this one would be a great place to start!
The plot in the first half of this book is very character driven and sets up for an utterly perfect action packed second half. The epilogue will have vou begging Nicole for the next book. Lucky for you there's only a few short months until book two, The Shards of Ophelia, releases August 22nd. With a title like that we'll all probably need the next several months to emotional prepare ourselves for wringer we're about to be put through.

Ophelia and every single one of her friends has stolen a piece of my heart. They're each perfect in their own way, all are incredibly relatable and perfectly flawed. I don't think I could love a set of characters more. Each one is a carefully crafted masterpiece.

I promise this book won't disappoint and l'm so excited to read everything that comes from Nicole in the future!

“i was not made for skirts, father, i was made for swords.”

i promised myself that i would dnf books more often and i finally decided to dnf this one because it’s boring, i don’t care about the characters, the storyline or anything else it sounded interesting so i started it but i can’t finish it and i’m tired of forcing myself to finish something i don’t enjoy.

Kind of boring, not going to lie.

It was okay, I was never overly excited about it though. It was fun and I think certain aspects of it are great, I just am not attached to any of the characters.
