I think if I didn't have approximately 126 books in piles in my room to read I might have given this more time, but I really couldn't get behind it. The writing was quite good, and it held me briefly, but there were turns off phrases that put me off, and random words that turned up out of the blue: flowing sentences that were abruptly ruptured by "titties" and the inability to call it a penis, or a vagina, or sex. Also the idea that a foetus, not even nearly 9 months old, can smell or have claws. It may be a book for another time, but for now it is worthless.

You wouldn't believe this is her debut novel. It's beautifully written and her characters are wonderfully different but utterly absorbing. A great read.

There's no easy way to put this, despite the wonderful blurb and the fantastic cover, this book was disappointing.

I ended up finding it boring and feeling apathetic towards the characters. This book has been likened to The Night Circus and The Magic Toyshop and the book itself promised a similar fantastical element. But it really lacked in any sort of magic. The story fell flat after a third of the book and there was nothing to grip me. There was also a lack of development between Eve and Abel in my opinion.

The ending happened very quickly and the ending was very abrupt.

Great great great. As a lover of magical realism this definitely ticked all my boxes. I loved the complex relationship and the ending had me sobbing.

I struggled a bit to get into and to get through this one. It was more fantasy than I was expecting, and I don't know why, but something about it didn't live up to the blurb and the reviews I've seen of it. Not my favourite, but another one from the library book collection done!
