I pushed halfway through and then had to turn it off. The last thing I want to use my leisure time for is reading a sad story about breast cancer.
After living through losing one of my best friends to breast cancer I don’t need to relive any of it. Thank you very much.
Also, when you can’t find your kid overnight, you call the police. When your kid is not home from babysitting, you wait up for them to get home. You don’t go to bed.

Interesting concept: mother and daughter both so busy that their only communication is via notes on the refrigerator. I liked it, except that it just seemed contrived. I mean, could anyone really be that busy that they can't find time to be with their child every so often (or can a child be so busy that they never see their parent)?
The Major Plot Device also seemed contrived, which is why I couldn't give this five stars. It felt a bit like the author was trying - very deliberately - to play with our emotions. And, of course, the jacket copy (luckily, no blurbs) tells us that there are "universal lessons" to be learned here. Ugh. Let me figure that out for myself, please.
Still, I gave it four stars because it's interesting, well-written (in a note-like way) and I think students will like it.

2019: This book is one of my all time favorites and this was my 3rd time reading it. This book makes me happy, it makes me sad and it makes me grateful. I just love it! ✨
2021: Edelleen todella koskettava kirja.

Claire and her mother are running out of time, but they don't know it. Not yet. Claire is wrapped up with the difficulties of her burgeoning adulthood—boys, school, friends, identity; Claire's mother, a single mom, is rushed off her feet both at work and at home. They rarely find themselves in the same room at the same time, and it often seems that the only thing they can count on are notes to each other on the refrigerator door. When home is threatened by a crisis, their relationship experiences a momentous change. Forced to re-evaluate the delicate balance between their personal lives and their bond as mother and daughter, Claire and her mother find new love and devotion for one another deeper than anything they had ever imagined.
Wow. This book......
I picked this up looking for [b:Looking for Alaska|99561|Looking for Alaska|John Green|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171446423s/99561.jpg|919292] and I'm so glad I did. This book made me cry so much I ruined a few pages. A must read book

It was ok, a very quick read (couple of hours at most), but it did not ring very true to me.
