I picked this up on a whim at an op shop today. Saw its unique writing style and that it was about a mother and daughter relationship. I lost my mum almost a year ago now and this book made me feel closer to her in a way? I think she might have liked it. Watching movies and leaving notes reminds me of her. Cried so much at the end.

The best book I read in January this year with an inventive style and very moving.
The ending was fairly obvious in one way, but it was wrenching in another as you could see it coming and knew there was no way of stopping it, and you were swept along with it.
A great easy quick read, and recommended to all.

I bought this at Barnes & Noble in their bargain book section while I was pregnant. I hadn't found out the sex of our baby yet, but we thought it was a girl, so I thought it would be a nice and easy book to read before I delivered. (We had a boy. Whoops!) I did read this before I delivered while lying uncomfortably on the couch one night and was less than impressed.
A quick perusal of other negative reviews of this book reveal the same problems I had with it: contrived plot, unlikeable characters, and poor parenting skills on behalf of the mother. I actually didn't mind the post-it note format (it was one of the reasons I bought the book in the first place) - I just couldn't get past how hands-off the mother was with her daughter. She's 15 and you go days without checking in on her? That's poor parenting. You're an OBGYN and your knowledge of breast cancer is less than mine (a non-medical professional)? That doesn't say good things about medical school.
A book can be well-written with a contrived plot. This one was, obviously, not one of those.

I recommend that ALL mothers read this book with their daughters as my mother did with me. My mom and I have both always loved reading and never would I pass up the chance to go to the library with her (leaving with BAGS and BAGS of books). I grew up reading with my mom and will never be able to thank her for helping me learn to love reading so much. As a teen I guess you could say I kind of lost my way. I turned into a different person (I guess as most teen girls might). My mom picked up this book from the library and we took turns reading it to one another. By the time we were done reading we were both big puffy red eyed, snot-faced messes. It made our bond so much stronger.. and still to this day she remembers sitting and reading it with me. Books bring us some of our greatest memories together! Sometimes it's not so easy to sit down and talk straight with your kids, and I feel like my mom used this book to help me realize a few things!

This book made me cry.
It’s a very emotional book with a topic that hits close to home. I really enjoyed the format of the story and the way it was told made it really unique.

This book is such a sad read, but the mother- daughter relationship is very well written and is realistic. It is also is an unusual format that made the book and story go very quickly but this was done in a clever way to show how fast life can change in regards to the mother's illness.
