My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer when I was 16. She died when I was 18. This book has always been a great reminder of our time together.

A fantastic depiction of a Life by notes. It made me cry in the hour it took me to read it. Fantastic

A real tear-jerker...probably too close to home for a mother with a teenage daughter also.

Super quick read because of note format. Read the entire thing on the train home today. Despite its brevity, great emotional weight and exploration of a mother and daughter relationship. Sad though, you have been warned.

I went into this book blind just because of the title and I was so not prepared for the tearjerker it was gonna be. A story told in notes on a refrigerator exchanged between a mother and a daughter over the span of a year. The mother is a doctor and the daughter is a high school student. Their schedules barely line up for them to see each other even though they live in the same house. Until something forces them to sit down and have a real conversation. This changes the course of their relationship and bonding. An innovative approach, executed to perfection, can't believe it was the author's first novel.

I found this book more than a bit depressing. A teenage girl and her mom communicate through notes left on the refrigerator door. It's no wonder they run into problems since they never seem to find time to be together. As a long time single working mom who raised three children on my own, I can't imagine a parent being so busy they can't find time to be with their child(ren). Of course, the mother gets sick and she and her daughter feel guilty for not spending time together. No happy ending here.
