Normal rules don’t apply was a collection of interwoven short stories that earned each of their own place in my heart. The book is laden in Easter eggs and new additions that truly keep you wondering who is telling the truth. Or if anyone is telling the truth at all.
Graphic: Child death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Pedophilia, and Sexual harassment
Minor: Animal death
Without any spoilers, these things are not mentioned in EVERY short story, but in three of them they are mentioned explicitly, and without putting warnings for readers sensitive to these triggers would be an unfair review. The majority of stories overall are brief in their communications of these warnings listed.kelseyr713's review against another edition

I’m always on the lookout for weird/strange short story collections, and this one definitely fit the bill. I loved the interconnections and the non-linearity. All the stories have a little whimsy to them, even if they deal with darker subject matter. I definitely want to read more Kate Atkinson!
Moderate: Child death, Infidelity, and Kidnapping
Minor: Sexual content
