Classic Junji Ito. Interesting, unique horror plots drawn in a fascinating, grotesque way. Loved it and also it gave me nightmares.

What can I say, its another Junji Ito collection. What I really enjoyed about this collection over the others is the focus on spirituality with death. A few of the stories incorporated traditional stories from a few different religions, namely Christianity which was really interesting to see from a Japanese manga artist and author.

Really creepy and bizarre! I love the art! The second and third stories were my favorites!

I don't think I need to sing the praises of Junji Ito as a horror writer. This collection is exactly what you'd expect: gorgeous art, compelling characters, terrifying stories that leave you with a sour taste in your mouth. I finished this book in about an hour, and, despite not being a huge fan of horror, found it enjoyable. Ito's brand of horror does include some amount of gore, which is the easy answer as an artist, but much of his horror is more subtle, quieter, the kind of thing that scares the everliving shit out of you without resorting to pure shock value. The thing that mostly squicked me out was the Mary statue crying blood.

I also appreciate his opportunity to use dissociative identity disorder as a plot device, and explicitly refusing to use it. It's a mark of a truly original artist to reject such harmful yet common tropes.

This was my first Junji Ito book, and I must admit I expected more from it considering all the hype around him as a horror author.

Of the 4 stories in this collection, I'd most looked forward to the one set in Aokigahara (the "suicide forest") - it was the main sell of the book for me! - but in the end it was nothing like I expected, and fell a little flat.

I think my favourite overall was the final story, Slumber. It really had that horror movie feel to it, keeping you guessing with the twists and turns and keeping the creepy factor turned up to high right up to the final moment!

Though this collection didn't live up to my initial expectations, I'm definitely still intrigued enough to check out more of Ito's work in the future.
