This absolutely slapped and I’m pumped to read the second one. Would’ve rated higher based on my enjoyment of the back half but actually thought the first like….. 200 pages (!!!) were pretty slow and I struggled to get stuck in. Vanja alone: kind of a bore. Vanja with a crew: fun, hilarious, tender, sweet, give me more. LOVED the romance subplot and thought it really lifted the story.

4.75! This world and these characters are so beautiful. The topics covered and how they are fleshed out are done beautifully. Definitely one of my new favorite fantasy books and I can’t wait to start Painted Devils!
