The retelling is really awesome, with the mood preservred yet a modern approach. The appendix really helps with pinpointing the historic aspect of things, too, and of course Fry is an amazing narrator. This story was the perfect end to the myths trilogy.

Excellent continuation of Fry's reimagining of Greek Myths, and an excellent audiobook! It's probably my least favorite of the three so far, though that's more due to the nature of this story--unlike the previous books, this is one continuous narrative as opposed to a collection of stories, which requires greater concentration, especially because there are far more characters, and lesser known ones compared to the big heroes and the gods themselves. I also am so very attached to Miller's story of Achilles that, though he's far from the focus of this retelling, it was hard for me to muster the proper enthusiasm for his appearances. I still very much enjoyed this one, and I'm looking forward to his retelling of the Odyssey!

A fantastically well written book, it encapsulates the beloved story of the Trojan War whilst managing to be entertaining, educational, and poetic in its own right.

I will definitely be reading the other books in this series and very much look forward to any future releases from Fry.

I have the lovely hardcover but mostly listened to the audiobook version as it's an additional delight hearing Fry narrate. If you liked the prior books, you'll like this as he provides a wry and entertaining retelling of the Iliad and the siege of Troy. Familiar yet distant at the same time. Come for ribald retellings, entertainingly bucolic accents and a modern commentary on the events.
