I like this book! It was good preparation, since I have to read the Odyssey, the Illiad, A Thousand Ships and Trojan Women for a course soon!

“We recognize that if we had ever encountered the real demon demigod Achilles, we woul have feared and dreaded him, hated his temper, despised his pride and been repelled by his savagery. But we know too that we could not have helped loving him.”
I knew very little about greek mythology and at first, I really felt there was no way I could retain anything from this book. But soon enough the little facts I knew set into place and became part of the larger story. Stephen Fry has a wonderful way of telling these myths that everyone knows something, but certainly not everything, about in an accessible, thoroughly entertaining story!

This book had so many details I had forgotten throughout the years. It felt really comforting to read and place everything back into context.
While the narrateion is excellent I would like to re-read it physically. But that's more my issue than the reader. I could just listen to Stephen Fry read the phone book.
This is a retelling of the story of the fall of Troy; the events that led up to it and how personalities clashing caused more tragedy. How ego and how the Gods getting involved causes complications and twists to the story. Its well retold and I have to add a paper copy to my collection ( I have mythos and Heroes already and they have led to bad nighttime decisions.)
