3.5 stars. Definitely not the worst Reacher. Andrew Child is a better writer than Lee Child, but I think Lee is a better storyteller. Of course it's not going to feel like the same old Reacher. To me, Reacher has lost some of his no nonsense hard edges, but also some of the depth of character that made him such good company. Now, a lot of his habits and personality traits just come across as two dimensional cliche. Also, where's the strong woman side kick? Fenton's small role just wasn't enough.
In the end, it was all a bit bland. But then, who knows, maybe there's a different Reacher evolving?

I was so happy to have another Jack Reacher novel to read that was co-written by Lee Child. It felt and sounded like Jack Reacher and I really liked it up until the last twenty or so pages. Then it ended abruptly and I was left with questions. I had to re-read the last bit to catch the details, and answer my questions. It was easy to miss some points the first time (or not to catch on to the significance of the details). Overall it was good but the ending let it down somewhat.

I try to limit myself to two Jack Reacher books a year - although this year I might have to add a third. This one has Reacher once again encountering some evil people - but some of the plot lines got a little loose at the end. We had no satisfaction at bringing Dendoecker to justice for example. Still - this is another entry in the string of events where Reacher inadvertently finds himself in the middle of a group of people who are being traumatized by an evil person or group of people and Reacher saves the day.
