Appropriate title. This book is truly terrible. The plot is ridiculous, the writing is similar to very weak fan fic, and honestly, I believe Jack Reacher will probably die a natural death, as everyone will just stop reading.

If you have read previous Jack Reacher novels, Lee Child has a definite style and when that style changes, the character also changes. These changes and the style difference is what leads me to believe Andrew Child was fully in control of the the writing. Change is good. Change leads to growth. Change is needed to grow a brand. Change is also hard for people to deal with. Most people fight change. No matter what, some people will never agree with change. Reacher has changed, slightly. Andrew Child's Reacher seems more brash, more aggressive but also more caring(?).

It is these small changes, I believe, that will open up new avenues to grow the brand of Reacher and why Andrew Child will be a successful successor.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read an advance copy of Better Off Dead.

Reacher has changed. He seems meaner now. Killing everyone. I don't remember him being like this. before. Is it a change in author? Am I getting old? I don't know. This one seemed different.

Just another fun adventure in the Jack Reacher series. A little slow to start but then it got going nicely

Better Off Dead (Jack Reacher #26) is written by Lee Child and his younger brother Andrew Child. This fast paced thriller is full of conflict, tension, suspense, unexpected twists and high stakes. Once again the two brothers' dynamic writing style has placed them on the bestselling authors' list not to be missed!

Synopsis:
Jack Reacher never backs down from conflict. With his 6'5 height, the highly trained tough guy takes on situations that leave readers on the edge of their seats. In Arizona, Jack discovers Michaela Fenton in a wrecked jeep while walking down a desolate road. Jack offers Michaela help, but little does he know that Michaela is an army vet turned FBI agent in search of missing her twin brother. She is more than capable of taking care of herself. Will Michaela accept Jack's help tracking down her brother?

Another Jack Reacher novel (#26)! I have read them all so that pretty much says that I am a fan. This one may not be the best ... I missed the parts where he just hangs out in a diner, pondering the best style cup for drinking coffee, or heads into the local farm store to get a new set of clothes.

There is, though, plenty of action; an arch villain (this time a terrorist); a huge guy who can almost put out Reacher’s lights; and a damsel in distress.

If you are already a fan of Jack Reacher, you will enjoy this. And if you have not yet had the experience, I would recommend starting with either The Killing Floor (the first in the series) or The Enemy (the first chronologically), but it also fine to just grab whatever one happens to be available.

The problem with a New Jack Reacher book is that I buy them and consume them rapidly, they keep my interest from beginning to end. So now as with the last one I have a long wait until another one comes out. That is the real problem that there is not a new one every week or so!

airplane reading. With sinus infection. Otherwise waste of time, which is a shame because I once enjoyed Lee Child's Reacher novels.  What I miss is the way the author had of perfectly describing a place in sharp spare prose.  He had a knack for capturing the out of the way and forgotten places and this, along with the protagonist's strict moral code, balanced the novels.  There is none of that here.
