This was written better than other free books I've gotten from the Kindle store, but the ex husband made me so angry and that felt a bit too real. Our main guy shifter only had one mode (angry protector) and although I love that, I don't want it the whole book.
Fun read with were-bears. But uneven revelations not fully integrated into the story keep this from being fully satisfying.

Fast, maybe too fast. The reveal of what the human female was and her ongoing issues felt very "slidey", like things were added during the pantsing writing and not fully integrated during subsequent editing passes. Oh, let's have her not just be human. Let's have her ex go from normal to poison. Great additions, really help the story pop - but creates an unevenness in the presentation because of the feeling of later addition instead of full integration. Still a fun read.

This was a short book so it was a quick read. The spice level was mid and the world felt very small. While the MMC is a bear shifter, that was the only paranormal thing about the story. The MMC confronts the bad guy, the MFC's gay evil ex, in his bear form which was really the only part the bear was useful for. The only other rescuing that the MMC did for the FMC is lend her his lawyer. I enjoyed the story for what it was but, ultimately the paranormal element was disappointing and the story is forgettable. I wont continue the series.
