Subtle and effective accounting on the dependency of natural habitat conservation and human settlement.

Surprised how little this held my interest.
I love raptors and was hoping for more about the owls themselves. The difficulty of capturing species behavior is understandable but doesn't make for great reading. This is basically a collection of field reports with some details added about the people the author encountered in rural Russia. Some sad and interesting bits, but nothing intimate enough to leave a lasting impact.

Both educational and entertaining, particularly for wildlife lovers. A great piece of environmental writing that provides a glimpse into an unknown and foreign to me subject while making it approachable and easily understandable.

I definitely would not have read this book if it were not for book club. That said, I learned a few things even though it was slow at times

Insightful regarding not only fish owls, but also scientific research and rural Russia. Please give me more like this.
