This was really good up until the last couple of chapters when I started to wonder why Keira was being so dense. The murderer became more and more obvious but she just completely ignored all the signals despite earlier in the book noting that she shouldn’t overlook this person. Argh.

I've somehow gotten out of order with this series, but it doesn't really matter at this point. Enjoyable but a bit melodramatic as usual. I did guess the murderer which is always nice.

Very interesting plot line. I enjoy that this series doesn't have just a go to type of story. Yes murders happen but the author has done a decent job finding different settings and historical background to add into her story. I appreciate that a lot.

Oh no I’ve caught up and can’t binge Lady Darby! So glad I started this series and I will be reading her other series.
And this is the best writing about a baby I’ve EVER read. Someone who writes an actual child and not some precocious unreal thing.

A Perilous Perspective is the 10th Lady Darby historical mystery by Anna Lee Huber. Released 19th April 2022 by Penguin Random House on their Berkley imprint, it's 400 pages and available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

Set in the 1830s in Scotland, this is a long running series with distinct and well rendered characters who are believable and established. Although it's the 10th book in the series, the mystery, denouement, and resolution are self contained and it works well enough as a standalone. The author is quite adept (and prolific) and this was my first foray with Lady Darby and her associates. I'm more familiar with the author's interwar British series, featuring Verity Kent.

Lady Darby is more refined, more earnest, and more cerebral, and I've been impressed at how different the series are. Both are very well written and readable, but entirely different setting, time period, and atmosphere. This volume sees Lady Darby and her husband/partner Sebastian on a trip to see friends be married. Murder soon intrudes and it's up to Kiera and Gage to untangle the mystery.

The unabridged audiobook has a run time of 11 hours 30 minutes and is capably narrated by Heather Wilds.
. She reads the characters distinctly and does a good job of differentiating the accents. Except for the dialogue (which she does competently), I found her voice unobtrusive and neutral, in a good way.

Four stars. More than competently written, engaging, and cleverly constructed. It would be an excellent choice for public library acquisition or substantial binge read. An 11th book in the series, A Fatal Illusion, is due out in 2023.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

A Perilous Perspective
4 Stars

In the Scottish Highlands for the wedding of her cousin and good friend, Kiera inadvertently discovers that the priceless artwork at the estate of Rye's great-uncle, the Marquess of Barbreck, are forgeries. As she and her husband Sebastian, a private inquiry agent, investigate, old animosities are re-awakened that put everyone at risk.

While the mystery surrounding the paintings is quite straightforward, and the identity of the killer becomes obvious at a certain point, it is still entertaining to follow along with Kiera, Gage, Bree and Anderley as they uncover the clues.

Readers are provided with more information concerning Kiera's past and the revelations are completely unexpected and intriguing - I have to wonder whether
SpoilerMargaret Campbell was somehow responsible for Greer's death
?

There are also updates on Bree and Anderley on again-off again romance, and a novella focusing on their relationship would not be amiss.

In sum, a satisfying read and the minor cliffhanger at the end has be itching to read the next book as soon as its released next year.
