I waited for the social machine to die down before reading this on purpose since I've been sucked in before but I was pleasantly surprised by the book.

Anderson, I think, had fun with this since I was laughing from the first chapter and throughout the book thanks to the wit in her main character Mila mostly but each character has some moments.

Having experienced loss of loved ones, I felt a lot of what Mila felt. The turbulent emotions that go from grief to anger, hopelessness, and a myriad of what-if's that I had, she did too, but in her case, she was able to bring back her BFF and in the process two more girls that while unexpected turn out to be a good thing that lead me to a surprise twist that I didn't see coming.

I really enjoyed this book, but the ending wasnt my favorite. I liked the magic/necromancy and how some of the interpersonal relationships grew and changed. But some of the main characters can be a little frustrating or annoying at times.
I will say the "whodunnit" took me by surprise.

mila is one of those annoying characters that you can grow to love. i think my favorite character was dayton tho. she was so ditzy and sweet.
i didn't expect the ending at all. well, not until closer to the ending lol but i had no clue for awhile.

this was a fun and quick read!! I loved all of the elements involved (witches & zombies but with a slightly different take) and the bond that the girls were able to form. some of the most important scenes did feel a little rushed and jumbled, though. and interestingly enough I had to suspend more disbelief when reading the day-to-day actions of the living high schoolers than I did with the characters being risen from the dead. but overall I would recommend this book to others and had a good time reading it!
