I got many suggestions to read this one, and I was really looking forward to teen witch raises her friend from the dead to find her killer!!

The first part of this book was a little slow, but after Mila actually raised the girls it became much more interesting.
It was a cute, fun, easy read which I think a lot of people would enjoy!

I loved getting to see Mila evolve over the week and allow some of her walls to come down. I also enjoyed her no nonsense attitude towards being overweight, and that it was never once mentioned that she needed or wanted to lose weight, which is alwayssss the case for plus sized characters!!

Girls supporting girls, witches, plenty of humour and sarcasm, exploring greif of losing friends, and a murder mystery all wrapped into one!!

Read for Book Roast's Magical Readathon: NEWTs Exams. Subject: Charms, A Level. (Book with Magic)

Holy. adorableness.

Can you call a book that jumps out of the gate with best friend death adorable? I think you can.

This book is The Craft meets iZombie with just the right sprinkling of Death Becomes Her, and I am kind of living for it. I could do an entire series about these four girls solving crime together. And they could be in a band. The Witch and Her Zombies.

I don't know how a book about bringing people back from the dead can qualify so heavily for the Contemporary category, but it really works as a story about a girl trying to grieve for the loss of her best friend. Just because she happens to use really dark magic to bring that friend back, I mean, who hasn't tried that one?

In the process, she accidentally brings back two popular girls who died days before her best friend. The girls are Heathers-light, more Gretchen Wiener than Regina George, but they're still not the ones you want to hang out with while, again, trying to Solve Crime.

So much happens in this relatively short book, so many seriously wrong conclusions jumped to, so many people pissed off. It's a fun ride, but some of the character choices just make you want to reach through the pages and smack someone. I mean, you're driving around with people who everyone in this small town DEFINITELY knows are dead. Does this seem like a good idea to you?

I don't want to say too much and spoil anything, though I did find the whodunnit factor entirely obvious. But I'm me, and I'm obnoxious and always know whodunnit, and no one should listen to me about that anymore. Seriously, I annoy even myself with that. But if you DON'T see it coming, it is an enormous shock, especially given certain...erm...factors. ::shudder::

But it's barely about the whodunnit. It's about a girl dealing with the grief of losing her best friend, and who is furious at being left behind in a school that doesn't even want her. And in trying to deal with her grief, she ends up bringing two people directly into her life who have done nothing to improve it. And we do get the kumbaya, can't we all just get along, Full House style closure with these two, but there's something about these girls that really makes it work.

I mean, they do a Big Dark Spell, and one of the girls throws handfuls of confetti afterwards. How do you hate a character like that?

A sincerely adorable book, which just a few shades of dark magic. What's not to like?

NOt my favorite Lily Anderson book, but I feel like Anderson is single handedly making teen mysteries cool and readable again, SO THERE'S THAT.

I was so excited for this one, soooo excited. But it fell flat. A book about how a plus-size teen witch brings her dead best friend and two other girls back to life for a week to look for revenge on their murderers? Awesome. Done. I’m all for it. Gimme. It all started out okay, but it left me feeling bummed by the time I was finished reading. Mila misses her best friend Riley so hard after Riley is mysteriously found dead but nobody seems to think it was anything other than suicide, just days after two other classmates were found. I was looking forward to Mila’s reunion with Riley but Riley is mean and distant throughout the entire book. I couldn’t really see how they were ever friends in the first place. Neither of them get much redemption or closure either. It turns out the other two girls June and Dayton were way more interesting and gave Mila more character development. Then for the hunt for their killer, I felt like there were so many times that I just wanted to yell at them to go about something a different way, but I will say I was left surprised.

Intrigued by the idea, not into the execution. Not enough plot, too much catty fighting, a few heartfelt moments, and a romantic side plot that I had trouble buying into. There were some clever moments that kept getting my hopes up for the rest of the book but I was ultimately disappointed. I just really wished this book was more than it actually was.

It was hard to put down--so I didn't! Great read all the way through. Enjoyed the female friendships and the wonderfully prickly yet loveable main character, Mila.

I already hated mushrooms, so it's not like Anderson ruined them for me, but I definitely had to avoid trying to picture...all THAT in my head too vividly lest I become the puke emoji in real life. *shivers*
