Markedly worse than the first, but still a fun romantic adventure.

I was unfortunately reminded too often of The Winner's Crime, what with all the politics, arranged marriages, and misunderstandings of how the two leads feel about one another, so that dragged this book down for me. It felt a whole lot like that plot line in this new nation came out of nowhere, honestly, and it really screwed with the pacing because we had to learn all the new exposition pertaining to the new place along with wrapping up the plot threads from the first book.

This just wasn't structured like the second half of a duology for me, it felt much more like the second book in a trilogy up until the very, very end, when we got an epilogue.

I'm not wholly disappointed, though, because the relationship between Fowler and Luna was still really great (even if it was a little soured due to the jealousy surrounding each of their arranged marriages for a bit there) and I was living for all of the scenes they got together, which weren't numerous.

With all that said, this was a fun little duology, even if I did want a little more out of it than what I got. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for anything Jordan might put out next because this was definitely a solid effort, even if it wasn't her first effort.

The ending of his duology was all of 4 pages. All the build up and then no delivery, it felt as if the author got bored of her own story and just wanted to be done with it. As Marvin the Martian said, “Where’s the earth shattering kaboom?”. The first book was great, this one just fell so flat, it felt entirely forced.

"He was good at holding me together. Except when he was sending me flying apart. One touch, one kiss from him did that."

why the heck does no one ever talk about this duology? like seriously, it was so well done. i think that the pacing of this book, particularly at the end, felt rushed(it gave me whiplash lol), but other than that, I have no complaints. If you are looking for more of a character-driven, short fantasy series, this is for you! like yes, there was a plot but it was more driven by the characters and their actions. 100% reccomend

Luna spends basically 100% of the first book and 90% of this one being against death or killing or evil in any fashion. Them suddenly she's dragged underground and BAM, she's queen of the dwellers, and then she literally uses them to kills the entire castle and rulers of two kingdoms. That's not out of character at all? Sure, let's take them to claim the throne, that's not awkward at all.
