The best thing about this story is that all of the musketeers are great. D'Artagnan is lovable in his fresh-faced resourceful enthusiasm; Porthos is lovable in his bravado; Athos is super badass and awesome with his hidden nobility and classiness and dark streak; Aramis is beautiful and academic. Possibly my favorite chapter is the one where he's arguing theology with some theologians and D'Aratagnan is bored.

This has to be my all time favourite book. It has everything, action, romance, awesome!!!! (2017)
(2021) have just finished a more recent translation and the difference in use of language is very apparent. This edition would suit people who are less used to reading ‘classics’ or would think that reading a translation would be difficult. Reading this properly for the first time since I was 15 (2017 was an audio version am now nearly 40) I’m reminded just how funny, action packed and thoroughly entertaining this book is, it’s still my favourite!

Fun swashbuckling, too long, boring politics, shame about all the rape.

When I decided to read this I was a little afraid I wouldn't get through it (a classic and over 500 pages) but once I started I couldn't put it down. It was a very good time with an interesting plot and characters (Milady de Winter is a very memorable female villian). Next the Count of Monte Cristo!
