With each book, Grafton is getting better at telling her story without letting on who the guilty party is. I'm liking the stories better as I move through the series.

It gets hard to keep writing reviews about a series, especially positive reviews. What I like about this book is the same thing I like about the others. Solid characters, good writing, and a solid mystery.

One of my favorite things about reading Sue Grafton is remembering a world before cell phones, when missed calls and card catalogs were still a thing. Grafton is so very detailed about the mechanics of Milhone’s investigations that I almost don’t care about the mystery that prompted them. I’m just fascinated by the details of how life used to be.

I wasn't that into this book for most of it but as usual toward the end I felt my energy go up and felt really intense. The ending was emotional and perfectly done.

The main reason I read Grafton books is because she writes about an area I grew up in. This book did not contain much of the familiar places.
