I'd moved away from women in war books because they were just too overdone in the late 2010s and I was over it, but I'm glad I read this one. Picked it up pretty randomly since I needed a new audio book, and it was decent. I thought it did a good job of telling the women's stories in a way that kept them at the forefront, but sometimes included a level of detail that was just too much. I love that there was so much information available, but maybe it didn't all need to be included.

Long book, it was for school

I love learning about the work women have done in history that we historically overlook and this book did not disappoint! Even though I still don’t fully understand how code breaking works, it did not affect my enjoyment. As with any historical book of this type, there are lots of times and names and places to keep track of (or don’t if you’re like me and just float with the story) but if you’re cool with that, I definitely recommend!

The epilogue really shines best in this book - the author captures the patriotism and the personalities of the code girls better here than anywhere else in the book. Having said that, it is fascinating to learn how many women were essential to the Allies' success in the war. As with most nonfiction books, the narrative does get bogged down from time to time, but it is an interesting piece of history that most people today know nothing about.

A great narrative about the cyrptanalysts of WW2 (who were mostly women). This was a great story across a number of individuals - amazing and important history.

The long introduction told me everything I wanted to know. When the book started to deep-dive I lost interest.
