"I used to read fantasy books and wish on every star to be whisked away to another world, one where evil was easily overthrown and power was reserved for the heroes, This is so not like the books I love."

Shadow of Light picks up where Ember of Night ended and whoa! Book 1 was pretty dark, but this is even darker. Double the grittiness, danger, action, suspense, secrets, twists, and high stakes. Oh the romance is hot, and not because they're in Hell. I loved the dynamics between Harley and the addition of some secondary characters, I grew to love them all. And the choices Harley faced were never easy, and I loved the support she got from her tribe, especially Draven. The writing is gritty, and it totally matches the worldbuilding as they navigate the realms of Hell, granted some parts ebbed and flowed better than others for me. And the end, like what the heck lol. Another cliffhanger I'll have to endure until May.

Read this series if you like:
• kick butt heroine
• bad boy with a soft heart
• impossible odds
• angels, demons, warlocks & monsters
• dark, sarcastic humor
• sisterly love
• chosen family
• The Dark Elements, Harbinger, Furyborn vibes
• angsty & mature YA-NA romance

cw: language, scenes of emotional, physical abuse, suicidal thoughts, violence and gore

Molly E. Lee’s Shadow of Light drops us straight back into the supernatural fray, beginning right where its predecessor, Ember of Night, left us. And there’s not really another break in action until right before its cliffhanger ending.

Harley knew that she was different, that her powers came from somewhere otherworldly. But, the last thing she expects after she brings Draven back from the dead is to be told she’s technically the antichrist. Still processing what exactly that means, Harley and Draven return to Harley’s little sister, Ray, and discover that Ray can be possessed by their adversary, a demon named Marid. The only thing they can do is take a little trip to the place that humans refer to as hell, to hopefully sever Marid’s hold on Ray. What could possibly go wrong with that plan?

As I mentioned above, this book is chock full of action, pretty much from beginning to end. There’s more mythological plot development and the introduction of some delightful secondary characters, namely, Wallace and Ryder. And the tie between Harley and Draven is only amplified throughout the progression of the story. (Be ready for some steam, folks!)

Even though all of the action and supernatural mythology is cool, at its core, this is a story about relationships. Lee does a great job of exploring various dynamics throughout the book, whether they be platonic, romantic, or fraternal. The cliffhanger ending was kind of a killer (in the best way possible)… and I cannot wait to read book three.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for generously providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Omigod, this book! Shadow of Light is seriously even more enjoyable than the first book, Ember of Night!

I won't say too much as it'll spoil the entire plot of Ember of Night, but I will say...this book has plenty of action, witty humor, romance, and twists and turns that you might end up getting whiplash (and that flipping epilogue again...damn!), so hold onto your seat! It's quickly paced and written in such a way that makes you want to keep turning the page.

I loved the growth of some familiar characters and some newly introduced ones (I absolutely love Wrath!) and the relationships that were further built upon from book one. This book definitely held up well as a second-in-a-series story with no lull in the plot...no middle book syndrome here! I am greatly looking forward to "Spark of Ash"!

If you loved Ember of Night, I highly recommend you continue the series and read Shadow of Light!

Huge thank you to Entangled Publishing for the e-ARC to read, enjoy, and honestly review.

What an incredible second installment of the Ember of Night series! This book was such a wild ride and I loved every minute. This is a fast paced story filled with all things romance, nonstop action, and one of the best/strongest female MC’s I’ve ever seen! Molly E. Lee creates an absolutely stunning world in Shadow of Light and this is how a sequel is DONE!

I absolutely loved getting to learn more about this world and the characters of the series. We even get to meet some fresh faces which I cannot wait to see more of in the next book! Shadow of Light really shows just how much Harley loves her sister and her friends, and the immense lengths she will go to save them. Her character is one that I have rooted for from the very beginning and I have so enjoyed watching her grow. And of course, Molly delivers the most swoon-worthy romance that does not let you put this one down. Draven is every readers dream.

And you guys, THAT. ENDING. I need Spark of Ash immediately. This series is fast becoming one of my favorites, and you definitely need to pick it up if you haven’t already. I cannot recommended it enough!

Harley is such a badass, even in her darkest moments she still manages to keep going. And draven is so swoon worthy. I absolutely love the sister bond in this book and the sunshine aspect of ray to Harley’s grump is just perfect! I love the twists on characters and their hopes, evil isn’t always evil and good isn’t always good!
