The beginning and the ending are alright, but the middle was quite tiresome.

I was familiar with the premise and expected a jaunty crime caper, but I ought to have known better coming from Highsmith. I would teach this in a literature class and have fun doing it.

Different from the Hitchcock movie, Strangers on a Train is an interesting book about characters and what they would do for each other, in this case murder. The book also deals with the murder’s fallout and what happens when two people become intertwined with murder.

This book got in my head. I really felt the nonstop barrage of manipulation from Bruno. I think he could convince anyone to murder just by sheer persistence. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters, but I also couldn’t put it down.

This is one of those books that is incredibly well-written and simultaneously insufferable. Like other Highsmith works, will have to chew on this for a little bit.
