Truly a book that exists. The reveal was both ridiculous and kind of felt lazy and predictable. I felt like this book didn't do anything exciting or new, and I've read better isolation thrillers. In fact, the tension felt too low for what was actually happening.

When a group of colleagues are snowed in after a horrible skiing accident, they discover that the accident may not have been an accident but a murder when they start dying one by one.

I enjoyed this book well enough. I appreciate that the author has left clues that allow the reader to work out what has happened. For me it just fell flat once the conclusion is confirmed.

I kept expecting more to happen or for there to be a mind blowing element as I was quick to decipher who the culprit was, but it never came.

I think those who like thrillers that have a very rounded ending will appreciate this one most.

This was a solid 3 for me as, while I flew through this novel and enjoyed my time with it, I thought there were some flaws that could have quite easily been improved upon.

Major spoilers ahead.

Spoiler
I enjoyed the snowy setting of the story and felt it was nicely atmospheric. I also really liked being inside the murderer's head, and how they were written.

On the flip side, being in their head made it fairly obvious early on who the killer was. This in and of itself isn't a bad thing, and I think Ware handled the attempted ambiguity well, but I felt there was a big chunk between about the 30-70% mark where I was just waiting for her to hurry up with the reveal already.

In turn, this narrative choice makes me feel like the big cast of characters was unnecessary. Having a group of people being picked off one by one lends itself perfectly to suspicion and guessing games, but this kind of tension is absent when you already know whodunnit. Alternatively, there could have been hints and red herrings speckled in as to the killer's motive and who might be picked off next. There were a few, but most of the characters were non-entities who never said or did anything particularly suspicious (Tiger, Carl, Ani, and Miranda especially). I think the story could easy have been more engaging if there were more teases of this nature to keep the momentum going.

Lastly, one thing is still really bugging me: how did Liz know to bring a red ski jacket? A line about how Eva took Liz shopping for ski clothes with her would have quickly solved this, but I don't think there was anything like that (unless I've forgotten), so it seems like an oversight.

Overall it was a decent mystery/thriller that could have done with some changes to make the middle section less of a snowshoe plod and more of an exhilarating black piste schuss. (ok it's probably obvious that idk anything at all about skiing, which also made a lot of those sections go over my head)
