Great book! Stronger than the first in a lot of ways. Enjoyed the progression of the story quite a bit, even if the writing didn’t quite do it for me in a couple places. But overall, it was a solid read and I think it accomplished what it was trying to do.

FIVE.
FRICKING.
STARS.

Oh, my god. The plot twists at the end made my jaw drop. This was yet another successful book of Stephanie Garber. She is officially one of my new favorite authors. I cannot wait to read Finale soon, and you should read this series ASAP. None of y'all readers are allowed to die before finishing this series. I'M SERIOUS, YOU GUYS. The trees did not die for this book not to be read by y'all. I'm sure the trees are so proud to be made into another masterpiece.

I really, really wanted to like this one, but I had a really hard time getting through it! Part of that is because this month has been so busy, but I had very little motivation to read it. It wasn’t nearly as exciting as the first one and did not have an interesting enough storyline to keep me enthralled. I was bummed!

I had doubts about reading this book because I didn't like the MC here (but now I really love Tella.), but OMG I loved everything about this book and the magic in this book is so unique and I LOVE reading about the characters and about the world, I also teared up while reading this book.

2.25 ⭐️ - this book has been disappointing to say the least. now that i think about it, i would rate it 2 stars if not for caraval and how much i have loved it.

i did not care about the protagonist, tella, her love story or her quest of saving her mother. what makes me even more sad is how the magic that made me love the first book so much has somehow completely vanished in the second one.

maybe the reason why i didn't love legendary as much as i love caraval is because tella is a literal teenager. she's 15 years old for most of the book which you can obviously tell by her actions. she makes immature decisions, constantly lies to her sister and is just a bit annoying in general. up until the last few chapters her character feels repetitive with her view on love and her relationship with dante. maybe i would have liked her more if i were younger, but i really couldn't connect with her at all. that's the reason why i loved Scarlett so much and why i'm so excited for the last book. MY GIRL IS COMING BACKKKK!!!

now that i think about it, what bothered me the most was tella's age. when i looked it up on google right before starting my read, i was so thrown off that i went into the book with a bias which i probably shouldn't have done and which i quite honestly regret a bit.

BUT there were good things in this book. well, a good thing. person. jacks. jacks. jacks. the saving grace. i was so excited to finally meet him and miss garber did not disappoint. i loved reading about him. his sassy character, his nonchalance and actions were peak entertainment and i would be lying if i said that i didn't fall in love with him. SO excited for ouabh!!

the second saving grace were the short appearances of my girl Scarlett and king julian. they ate their little screen time up and left no crumbs. i'm not even gonna talk about the ending because wtf scarlett?! WTF?? but i will not judge her because julian has done his fair share of lying too. HOWEVER if they don't end up together in finale we will have serious problems.

while this book has disappointed me, it will not hinder me from reading finale. simply because jacks.

I didn't enjoy Caraval very much, but had heard so many positives about the series that I kept going, but it is really not for me. The characters are annoying and the story is predictable. Will not finish the series.
